West Warwick Public Library Literacy Update

Students

Approximately 50 adult students and 14 children attended classes in the spring 0f 2008.  Since its inception at WWPL, the Family Literacy Program has served over 950 students and over 295 children.

New Students

Many of the new students that have joined the classes have been in the United States less than a year.  These students need survival English skills which include what to do in an emergency, reading bus schedules,  employment ads, and utility bills.  Speaking to a doctor, police officer or their child's teacher are also necessary skills covered in the program throughout the year. 

 

Summer Classes

Registration is currently underway for the spring 2008 classes.  Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings as well as Tuesday morning.  For further information, click on Classes or call the literacy office at 828-3750 ext. 15.
